I appreciated this story and how lyrical Barry was, however I just couldn't attach myself to this book or this story. I couldn't connect with the prose and deliberate lack of syntax and found it a chore to read. I persevered but the story wasn't good enough for me to feel any warmth or affection towards the story or its characters.
