Wow! So, I saw this book come through and saw the quote on the front. It grabbed me: "Moxie is sweet, funny and fierce. Read this and then join the fight." -Amy Poehler

I am SO glad that I did. I got through this book in 3 hours! I just could not put it down. This book is about Viv, who is just fed up with the unfair treatment (sexism) in her high school. She's a "good" girl but decides it's time for her to do something. She doesn't know what, but it has to be something and now. Influneced by her mothers past, she gets an idea to start some zines.

So many girls can relate to this girl, I sure could. She's shy, sits at the back of the class and just follows the crowd. She doesn't stand out and doesn't make noise. So, I totally get how terrifying it was to make her first stance. She ends up starting a girl revolution that is quite moving. It's amazing what one little action can do.

This book touches rape and racism too. It's amazing how girls from all different back grounds come together and take on the people in charge, the boys who are jerks and don't take no for an answer.

This book is not just for a feminist. Anyone reading this book gains something. There's a lot of growth to these characters. Finding their voice, self-esteem and learning to speak up for themselves. I keep seeing that this is basically a girls vs boys book, it's definitely not. Being a feminist isn't really about not liking boys, it's about wanting EQUAL rights and treatment as the boys.
In fact, the definition from a quick google search:
"Feminism is: the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men."
I don't see anywhere that it says we don't like them. I quite like my man, a whole heck of a lot!

These girls stand up for themselves and come together. It's quite beautiful and I really enjoyed it. Read this book and try not to feel like you have more Moxie at the end. You can't! I think this book is great for the times we are in right now. #Timeisup
