Darling
by K. Ancrum
I’ll admit, I was worried when I first started this book. A few chapters in I still wasn’t really feeling it, which was devastating because K. Ancrum is one of my favourite authors and The Weight of the Stars is my favourite book. But when Wendy’s adventure started, I began to fall into the rhythm of the book better and by around the halfway mark I was really enjoying myself. The last ~80 pages emotionally effected me in a way I wasn’t expecting considering how ambivalent I was feeling at the start, and the epilogue nearly had me in tears. This is certainly K. Ancrum’s weakest book, but she has set a ludicrously high bar for herself and it still ended up being wonderful.
