I voluntarily received an advance review copy of this book and chose to review it.

Oh boy. I’m a big fan of brothers best friend books and this one sounded amazing! Unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations. This book was all over the place.

To begin with, it was NOT a standalone as it was marketed. Having not read the first book I had no idea who the characters were, how they related to each other or half of the stuff that was mentioned. I still have no idea. If it’s part of a series, that’s fine, just please don’t say it’s a standalone if it’s not.

Second, everything happens at breakneck speed. There was no building of anticipation, it was all just wham, bam, done. I really think it would’ve benefited from a less haste, with room to breathe and events spread out over more than a chapter.

Going on from this, I really liked what happened with Josie, but I would’ve LOVED if this was stretched out, and built on.

I also think the stuff with Marcus, who I’m still not sure of who he is, belongs in his own book. Half of this books is concerned with him. Having no connection with him, I found I wasn’t really interested in it.

I wanted to like this book, but it was done in such a way that didn’t allow me to, sorry.
