I think this is a sort of alternate history featuring two historical characters and a possible romance.
It was good way to learn something about Theodosia Burr, interesting character, and a pleasant read.
I'm not an expert of the specific historical time but I liked the vivid historical background and think that the characters are fleshed out.
I enjoyed it and it's recommended.
