Oh Laini Taylor, please let me just shrink myself down to 5mm tall and live in the spaces between your words forever! If you want fantasy and you want gorgeous writing then you’ve come to the right place! The stories Taylor weaves just kill me every time, she hits the perfect mix of stellar world-building, incredible characters, and beautiful style that is sprinkled with just the right amount of humour.

Muse of Nightmares picks up right where Strange the Dreamer left off (and I’m sure we all remember where THAT was) and I was certainly not disappointed with the next part of the story. Sometimes in fantasy, things can appear too ‘easy’ if not done right, but Taylor lays the groundwork perfectly in the first book, so everything feels RIGHT!

The further characterisation as well as the new characters we get... Eril-Fane, Nova and Kora, Thyon, MINYA! My little heart could barely take it all, but it did, and I loved it, as I always do. It takes a lot of skill to write humour and light banter between characters, and it’s one of the things Taylor excels at!

If you had a knife to my throat and forced me to admit ONE teeny tiny thing that I don’t love about her work, then it’d be her tendency to italicise whole phrases, or even sentences, because that is just too much dramatic effect... But I only said that so you know I am capable of thinking critically and this isn’t just a huge gushing fangirling review BECAUSE IT IS OKAY I JUST LOVE HER.
