audiobook review 🎧

as you know, this book was the retelling of stephen king's carrie (which ironically, i have never read or watched the movie before this). i did do some research & dive into more about carrie after reading. i also managed to find the secret epilogue being read on an old instagram live (which pleased me and my homegirls VERY much).

despite me having a deep disdain for MOST of the characters, this was phenomenal. no notes, i feel like the voices were casted perfectly for the roles in the audiobook.

the (black) characters in this story were complex, multilayered & so relatable. kali (kendrick's sister) was my favorite & i identified with her over all others.

many of the things stated & that occurred in this novel infuriated me, which was to be expected, considering the a main portion of the plot was racial dynamics in a very racist little town.

it was so interesting (derogatory) how all of the characters continued to blame maddy for everything that occurred, when in reality bullying and racism were the REAL issue. as stated by tanya, had maddy been treated with the kindness and respect she deserved as a human being instead of being racially targeted by jewels and her gaggle of racists, the other half of the town would possibly be still alive.

i LOVED this book & cannot wait to delve into the rest of tiffany d. jackson's catalog! 😇
