Big Shot by Mindy Kaling
1.0
fast-paced

“The workday at The Office writers’ room started at 10:00. I would arrive around 10:15, sometimes later, at which point the showrunner would give me a dark look that told me he was very aware of my lateness and that we would be talking about it later.”

this was not a great start for me for a story.
it might be a pet peeve of mine but i think it shows a complete and utter lack of respect for any and all people you are meeting -privately or work related!- to show up late.
especially if it’s not at all an unintentional but seems to be more of a power play of “oh look at me, i am here now so let’s get started now!”

it’s looks very selfish to me.

and while i liked the first of this little series enough and even found some moments entertaining, the rest and especially the last to essays/stories of this a little series makes me think that kaling is an incredible insecure and jealous and at the same time self absorbed and selfish person that believes that everything she does should could more because she did it.

she hears someone paid for her friends dinner secretly to surprise them? she’s jealous that that it never happens to her,
so she does it to someone and is sulking and talking about how she never even got a thanks for doing it.

maybe that’s just me again but if you do something to apparently be nice there shouldn’t be expectations attached to that and you certainly shouldn’t talk about it with a completely different group of people and gossip about it just to make sure that others know what you did!

i am sorry but this entire series collection as a whole didn’t work for me.
you might love this if you are a huge fan - or as kaling herself states it in the book “are obsessed with her” this might be wonderful for you.

but if you want to read something that’s actually good and/or nice? skip this and look for something else.
