Surprisingly good mix between space colonist doom survival flick and monster romance, with a hint of alien social and political strife. Watching two alien species learn to interact with each others, learn each others languages and mannerisms from the beginning and seeing that blossom into an understanding, a friendship and then something more was heart warming. But the constant intrigue of how Ivy crashed onto the alien planet in the first place and slowly understanding that near everyone she ever cared about has died while she was simultaneously building a new life for herself on an alien planet with a Kethan, a cinnamon roll local with very different anatomy (spooder) and customs was very interesting. Ended on a cliffhanger but I’ll continue to read the full trilogy since I’m eager to see where their journey goes.
