I think this was a nice little introduction to Hoffman! It didn’t blow my mind but it showed me enough of her great writing to make me want to read a proper novel of hers. This was more a series of vignettes centred around one farmhouse, which doesn’t seem to treat its inhabitants very well. Hoffman has such a fantastic sense of place, I could smell the sea breeze on those brisk November winds, taste the pear pie and see the fields of sweet peas.
