I'm enjoying the story overall, and I'm looking forward to completing the trilogy, but I'm a little annoyed with the predictable writing the author has gotten into. Vague spoiler:

At this point now whenever someone goes missing or is presumed dead, I roll my eyes because I know they'll be miraculously found alive in the nick of time. It happened only once or twice in the first book, which was fine, but in the second book it's gotten repetitive.

The story is still engaging, but that's a criticism.
