Superman: Dawnbreaker by Matt de la Peña
3.0

3.5/5 stars

I was quite disappointed with this book for a few reasons:
1) When I think of high school age Clark Kent, I think of the tv show Smallville immediately. So I was kinda hoping this would be an episode of Smallville in book form .... it was nothing like that. Lana was an investigative reporter for the high school newspaper, Clark is already wearing the glasses, he’s way more hot headed then he should be, he has a crush on someone that isn’t Lana .... the list goes on and on. It was all slightly disappointing for me.
2) I read to escape from the real world, so I am not a fan of books involving current events unless they make them something crazy. So I wasn’t overly thrilled that the main topic of this book was immigration. I want a crazy Superman/Clark Kent story, that’s what I paid to read about. Instead I found myself skimming through parts of the book.
3) Villain. If you’re writing a Superman book I would assume Lex Luthor or Luthorcorp are behind the mishap. So why bring in some random character and make Lex a side character?

I don’t know a lot of the book just didn’t make sense to me. It’s probably my least favorite in the series to date.
