A Million Suns by Beth Revis

The first book was wonderful, especially the first chapter that describes cryo-freezing, and sometimes that makes me hesitant to read book two, because it will kill me if it’s bad. But I am happy to report that this book is just fine.

A little over three months have passed since Amy was thawed. Eldest has passed and now Elder is in charge. His first goal is to reestablish the ship’s mission and find their new earth. But everything is not hunky dory. Elder stopped the usage of the control substance that kept everyone placid and calm. Because people can now think and act for themselves, things on the ship have become harder to control. People want to revolt because food is getting low, philosophies such as you only eat if you work, are starting to come into play, and the masses are getting restless. One of the big complaints I had about book number one have been handled in this book. Sometimes the physics just did not work right. Such as: an object in motion tends to stay in motion. And these basic scientific principles are also things that Elder now has to contemplate in his goal to get his people safely on their way to the new planet. But as before there are complications, and people who still do not want God speed (the ship) to land.

I am intrigued by the population that Ms. Reeves has created. It is like me know humanity to behave, but at the same time, with new, and unforeseen challenges to everyday life. This book makes the reader not just keep turning the page, but think about a future that may not be too far away.
