The Scottish Prisoner
by Diana Gabaldon
I liked some aspects of this book, but not all. I really like John and Jamie as characters, particularly John. I think Gabaldon has done an incredible job in writing John's character. His story is really a sad one, and his life is one of carefully managed secrets, lest he be executed. Having said that, the actual plot of the book was quite boring to me, and the parts where they were in Ireland dragged on and on. The book picked up quite a bit at the end when they were at Helwater, but overall I expected a lot more from this book. The relationship between John and Jamie was really stilted; I expected more given how close they are in later Outlander books.
I did enjoy the book somewhat, it just wasn't my favourite Diana Gabaldon book.I should also say that I am slightly blinded by the fact that I was secretly hoping that they would find Percy when they went back to Ireland, and was devastated when they didn't.
