A Long Time Coming
by Meghan Quinn
I agree with what I’ve seen some others say in the Facebook review group, Breaker might be my favorite. Probably because of the nerdiness first off. But as the story went on, and we got some time with the two getting to be together as more than friends, it was probably how he took control in the bedroom. I mean the scene in the bathtub? I might have been fanning myself as I read it. Not to mention how good he was about doing his best to just be her friend as it was needed. How he supported her in every way, and didn’t push her to change her mind, only was there to listen and give any answers if she asked them.
I loved so much about this story. So often in similar plots where the woman’s best friend is really who she should be with, she will treat him in a way that shows she takes him for granted. But never did I see Lia treat Breaker like that. Sure it was annoying that she didn’t feel like she deserved more than what she was getting with Brian. But that is something that many women probably do. And I think it really kind of ties into the same reasoning behind why Breaker didn’t really date. She had what she needed from him, so didn’t necessarily notice it missing with Brian. Except, no to the sex part, I mean she should definitely have wanted more in that department from what it sounds like. Honestly the only thing that I didn’t like about Lia is silly and personal to me. I’ve always thought people who shipped Sam and Dean on the tv show Supernatural were just wrong. Yeah, in their ships maybe the guys aren’t brothers, but just ew because they are.
Another thing I loved int his was that Lia got to be friends with Kelsey and Lottie and their friends. That she got her own friend group. I loved this group of girls as they so much reminded me of my best friends in college, how openly we talked about ALL the details in our relationships. So much worse than what people say guys do in their “locker room” talk. I miss having a group of friends like that. And it wasn’t even just the girls, it was Breaker and Lia’s friendship. I want someone like that! Someone to play board games with, and have funny and embarrassing stories and nicknames to share. Finally it was also Breaker and his brothers’ relationships that I loved as well. I feel like my family is pretty close, not that much with my sisters anymore, but in the past, I feel like we could have been like that. And so it gives me a connection that way.
In the end what made this a 5 star read for me, even with the length that normally makes me bump down a bit ratings-wise, was that I loved how we didn’t really have to have that last bit of ridiculous drama that kept them apart. Did we get a moment of “oh no!”? Yes! We did! But the author didn’t make it into anything that irritated me. She only used one of the character’s silly insecurities come into play, but they didn’t then use that to cause issues, they only came out and asked and the two talked it out like rational human beings. And for the realistic-ness of that, I love this author. Also how she once again connected to characters from other stories and series, LOVED!
Yes, I think I can really say that Breaker Cane is my favorite of the brothers!
