By the Book: A Novel of Prose and Cons
by Amanda Sellet
Mary has to attend a different high school. She is a devotee of classic novels. She ends up compiling the Scoundrel Survival Guide, which is a rundown of literary types to avoid at all costs. She’s better at giving advice then actually taking it. She discovers life is different than fiction.
I loved that Mary would make literary references to things. It made my book heart sing and I feel like any bookish person would love it. I loved when she made references to Jane Eyre, which is my favorite classic ever. I did find Mary to be naive and this book to be juvenile at times. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.
