This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp
2.0

(*my overall rating is a 2.4)

This Is Where It Ends personally felt offensive to me?

let me explain.

so, this story takes place over the span of an hour (???) at a school shooting. it is told in the perspective of four characters, two inside the shooting, one outside, and one attempting to get in.

the first issue i came across in this story is the four perspectives themselves. it was too many stories to follow. one minute we were inside the shoot with Autumn, and then we flashback to a few months ago, then we go to Sylv who's on the other side of the gym, then we're with Thomas finding a dead corpse, then we're with Claire and then another flashback. it was just too much for me to handle in the story, especially with the topic this book is dealing with.

a lot of things that i know would trigger some readers (abuse, death of a loved one due to car accidents, school shootings, etc) were handled very poorly in this story. it felt like Autumn's abuse, Sylv's (or was it Thomas's?) death, and Tyler's death were merely there to add drama to the already bad book.

Nijkamp's plot and idea is great, but the execution is poor. i feel like if Nijkamp would've spent more time on this story, it would've come out better.
