The Girl In The Closet
by Michelle Heard
I love when the cover reflects so much the main character from the book.
The story begins when both main characters are teenagers and because Birdie had a traumatic childhood she is always shy and keeps to herself even if Cole is trying to get her attention and demonstrate her that he is caring and won’t let her go through her panic attacks by herself. They start to have feelings for each other but she is still scared of her horrible psycho of her father even if he is still in prison, the fears that he induced in her won’t let her get over and live her life as she would want and should have live it. That’s why he choose to enroll in the marines and after years and losing his cousin and his friend in the war he returnees home with his own demons to fight.
I loved that we have both POV and get in each character mind, the writing is great, entertaining, the story itself is about a slow burn love that hasn’t faded with the years and overcoming ones traumatic experiences as both have to accept the past and going through a very difficult situation ( talking about mental health issues ) so they can dream of their future together and their happily ever after.
