Normally I hate abridged adaptations of classic children’s book (Don’t get me started on Great Illustrated Classics), but this one has thawed my heart. The original book has been divided into sections, and the that section made into an early chapter book with great illustrations. It works. The abridger managed to keep Anne’s heart, Marilla’s sternness, and Mathew’s gentleness. I assume this is the first book of at least 4 volumes if not 6 or more. It goes from Anne arriving to the apology to Mrs. Lynde. I now want the next volume please.
