Ember in the Ashes is the book I never knew I needed. While it had its weaknesses (the insta-love, the love square, the use of rape as a threat where the female characters are concerned without having the same, or an equivalent, threat for the male characters), the plot, characters, and world more than made up for them. I kept being blindsided by this book and I can't wait for the sequel!
