The entire conflict of the story centers around an incredibly stupid misunderstanding, irrational jealousy, and a complete inability to listen to your partner. It starts in their high school years, has a time skip of a couple of years, and then resumes with a wife-chasing story where the alpha completely changes his entire personality and becomes a completely different character so he can win the omega back.  I guess that's character development.
