I definitely enjoyed this. It had an interesting plot and VERY interesting characters. Their relationships between each other were so complicated and had real depth. I did find myself getting lost at times, especially during “lecture” scenes when they’d go in-depth about specific magic. I didn’t feel I knew enough about the world to really understand those scenes or what they were trying to foreshadow. That might just be because I listened to this book but I loved the full cast.

This was all obviously setting up for the second book which I will definitely read. However, I wish it could have wrapped up the plot a little more at the end and could have acted as a stand alone. Overall a solid read.
