When She Dances by Ruby Dixon
4.0
fast-paced

So I really enjoyed this story - it's very Beauty and the Beast-esque and I liked the development of the relationship between Tessa and Zakoar.

BUT I do understand where there is a clear divide in the reviews of this one. I see where there is a sense of DubCon considering the nature of their initial relationship and the power dynamics at play.

Tessa is working as a slave dancing in a cantina on the N3 Station. She dances in the window and is constantly seeing/fantasizing about this cyborg male who has a shop across from the cantina. She watches him and he watches her but they never interact in person. There is a change in management and the owner decides to sell off some of the slaves to make a quick profit - Tessa being one of those women. Zakoar, who has been lowkey obsessed with her, finds out and buys her from the slave trader to essentially save her from being sold off to some rando. He makes a deal with her - in exchange for some consensual time with her, he'll take her to Risda so she can be free and safe.

And then, of course, they get to know one another and the relationship develops from there.

So, totally. This one isn't for everyone.
