The Song of Achilles
by Madeline Miller
5 Very Big Stars-- The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
TSOA tells the story of Patroclus, a banished prince, who finds himself becoming the companion to Achilles-- son a mortal and sea nymph. When Helen is kidnapped, the Greeks find themselves at Troy in battle. But with all of that going on, this is the story of two boys who became best friends and much much more.
WOW! That right there sums up my feelings about this book. I listened to the audiobook on Scribd (fantastic by the way) and was swept up in the story of these two boys. Their genuine affections for each other was written masterfully. It is not very often I comment on prose that moves you, but this novel made me smile, laugh, and (almost) cry. ;)
If you know the myth, you know Achilles will infuriate you at some point and that he did. But God that ending. That. Ending. If you have not read this book, please do. It was so wonderfully done.
