Something Good
by Melody Claire
"You were my something good. The light in the darkness.”
Oh man was this one good and it hurt in the best ways.
Sammy & Will.
The darkness & the light.
Ying & Yang.
Preppy & Skater Boy.
This book takes you on a journey with Sammy & Will.
You get best friends who spend every minute together riding bikes, then you get a time jump to teenagers fresh out of high school but not so much best friends anymore or friends at all. The last time jump is the one into adulthood, they both have grown into themselves but are separate from one another.
The way these two characters evolve through this book was perfect. There was no rush or over the topness to Will & Sammy. The slowness of this book kept me reading and wanting to get to the happy, it was hard fought for in the end.
Sammy & Will, complete opposites in every way. One has it all and the other does not. These two change so much through the book and it makes it that much better. Will grows into who he is, eventually. But it isn't without heartbreak unfortunately. Sammy gets his footing on a future and runs with it but him growing into himself isn't always the easy path and it is lonely.
Second Chances trope is one of my favorites especially when you add in childhood best friends, small town, a dash of emotions and a hard fought for happily ever after. These two kept me smiling and happy and then teary eyed not long after. There is plenty with this book and it wasn't about the spice for me in this one, it's there but that's not the bigger picture for me.
It's the love, acceptance & most of all forgiveness that kept a hold on me.
There's a few triggers for this one so please check those before reading.
This is my first book by Melody and the first in this series. I cannot wait to see what is coming for Jason and Zach in this series or other upcoming books by Melody.
