I wasn't 100% sure about how much I would like this book before I started it. I chose to read it initially because I knew it dealt with old texts and some italian history. I am a complete history nerd and the Renaissance is a particular interest of mine. Then as I started reading, I found that I did enjoy the history parts but I enjoyed all the other parts as well. I got so attached to the characters and I easily became engrossed in this story. I love it when I go into a book expecting to enjoy it a medium amount and come out of it liking it so much more! That's what happened with A Hidden Fire.

Gio is such an interesting character. He must have led such a lonely life. I must admit that tracking down rare books and objects seems like the coolest kind of detective job out there. I would love to be his assistant. haha! That might be for reasons other than the job though...

I also really liked the description of what Gio is. I loved that they each become attached to an elemental sign. That is such a unique twist on the concept. I can't wait to see some of the other signs in more detail. I need to read the rest of the books in this series.

The romance was really cute, but I wanted more of it. It started so late in the book, and I didn't get my fill of them. B and Gio really do make a great match. Though I must say, when I read the preview of book 2 I was so mad! I am not sure if I am going to like the direction that their relationship is taking. But I am already so invested in the characters and a I want everything to work out for them so I have to know what is going to happen, good bad or ugly.

A hidden fire is an awesome read. It is nice and long and has great character and plot development. I for one, can't wait to read book 2!
