I also love Lucy but this book made me appreciate her as a human. The thing is, most of what she did for comedy, Hollywood, women in careers, sci-fi (with producing the original Star Trek series) could have eventually been done by someone else. She didn't set out to be all-in-one. But it's because she had that drive and that compassion that she was able to be all of those things first. In my young brain, it's also weird to think that Carol Burnett looked up to her because to me "older comediannes" were just contemporaries but if I think harder, then it's true, Lucy was around before even Burnett. Wild.

I think this book packs a harder punch if you're in the midst of watching Hacks on Max like I am. What would any of us have done without Lucy.
