Looking for Alaska by John Green
4.0

I will start by saying that I am a big John Green fan. Outside of his novels, I really just love how smart and entertaining this man is. If you haven't seen his works on YouTube (Vlogbrothers w/ his brother Hank, CrashCourse, and so many others) then you need to go search it out. I was also a very big fan of the first novel of his that I read, The Fault in Our Stars.

I had been looking forward to reading Looking for Alaska for several years. It didn't quite live up to the hype I had built up for it, but it is still a very good book. After all, it deserves credit for getting me out of my reading slump and helping me to FINALLY finish my first book of 2015. It wasn't the powerhouse that I found with The Fault in Our Stars, but I almost feel guilty comparing the two against one another. Obviously, some books shoot to fame and others don't quite make it that far...even with the same author. If I compare Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban against, say Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, I will always be more wowed by Azkaban. It doesn't make me love J.K. Rowling any less. And so...just because I'm not giving Looking for Alaska five stars doesn't make me love John Green any less. I still have his other novels on my TBR. I'm still very much excited to read them.

Looking for Alaska? Worth reading. Just do it a favor...don't compare it to it's younger (but more popular) sister...
