The Return of Ellie Black
by Emiko Jean
Okay I see you. I see why there is so much hype. BUT I have to say that the immense hype almost ruined it for me because I was not expecting this much of a slow burn. Overall so enjoyable and trust me if you think it's slow - stick with it, it's worth it!
The story is creepy and focuses more on putting you into the mind of a captive; the psychological challenges and torture that occurs with every choice made. This was done fabulously and I had to step away from the book to realize hoe intense it was. The writing was causing actual heart pains during some scenes. It was about 75% that I was finally hooked because the reveals just started dropping and the pace sped up and raced towards the end. There's not much else I can say without spoilers, but this will be a book to be remembered.
Note: I listened to the audiobook and the entire cast did a fabulous job! It definitely ratchetted up the tension.
