To Be Taught, If Fortunate
by Becky Chambers
Becky Chambers is SO GOOD at what she does. This novella was different in style than the Wayfarers books, but her writing is still so good, and it makes me feel good to read it.
I love her worldbuilding, the way she's obviously thought about how certain changes or circumstances would influence people and what people need. Her characters are so - I wanted to say human, but I think real is a better word.
In this novella I loved how she wrote the relationships/interactions between the four characters. While due to the format almost all we see is glimpses and implied situations, they still feel very real and important. I would have loved to read more about them and see how the story would proceed, 135 pages is not a lot, but it is also good (great) as is.
