Fear Ground
by Jennifer Killick
One thing I really like about this middle grade horror series is that it doesn't overlook the physical or mental impact that the events of each book have on the main characters. It gives the books a depth that makes them more than just a generic creature of the week story (though there is in fact a new creature with every novel).
Fear Ground is the creepiest of the Dread Wood books I have read so far, at least for me personally because the creature in this novel is one that scares me more than the others. I was was genuinely itchy and fidgeting reading it.
There's something really compelling about Killick's writing, I'm flying through the series and really enjoying it. I have one book left to read (which has been published to date) and I'm planning to move straight onto it.
