Redneck Volume 3: Longhorns
by Donny Cates
Story: This picks up right after the events of the last volume. Without spoiling too much JV and the family are on the run again. This time though they go to a old friend...or lover...or someone that may be a bit of both. Once going to this new place things change drastically. Unlike the high paced last two volumes we slow down. Learn what life is, enjoy it, and maybe even create new life. Everything seems to be going well...but it's never that simple in the end.
Art: The style in itself is something super unique. Love the atmosphere, the southern feel, and the character designs themselves. I did notice some weaker action scenes in this volume, especially a particular scene in jail.
Enjoyment: I did find a lot to enjoy. The slower paced work for this volume's advantage. Getting to know the mindset of more family members, the fallout of previous events, and maybe even a bit of happiness. I enjoyed the hell out of the end, it was for sure shocking, but sets the story in a new direction that is must read.
What Didn't Work: Like I said previously, the art is lacking a bit here. I also think the slow down might upset people. This is a FAR slower volume than previous too and people might think "where is this going" instead of giving it a chance to tell its story.
Overall, another fantastic volume. A risky one in slowing things down but the payoff was amazing. A 5 out of 5.
