Throne of Glass
by Sarah J. Maas
I think the countless years of hype behind this series may be done it in for me. It's being touted as one of THE books to read when delving into the YA Fantasy genre and I don't really see it? I think the writing and characterization is ultimately meh at best and I think Maas did a better job of worldbuilding in her Court of Thorns and Roses series, which I prefer over this one
None of the characters stuck with me at the end, except maybe Nehemia, who I thought was more interesting than Celaena. This girl, a princess from a land colonized by the king whose castle she's staying in only to get inside information on his plans, is wayyy more exciting than the supposed world's greatest assassin who is out here eating bon bons, fussing over clothes, and playing with puppies. I will admit, Celaena has her badass moments. They're few and far between, but they happen and they're passable. Dorian and Chaol are..okay? I didn't hate them, but they felt incredibly flat.
I don't know if I'll be continuing with this series. If someone can give a fair and excellent argument for why I should go ahead and read Crown of Midnight, lay it on me. Otherwise I'm going to move along.
