Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
by John Berendt
This book gripped me in the first half, intrigued me in the second half, and felt like reading a newspaper description of a court trial in the third half. It starts strong and then, just winds away into a series of notes, as if to provide all the tying of ends to the reader without the effort required to narratively end a story. I read it straight through at the end, more because I was curious about how it ended than being sucked in by the writing.
