Manhunt
by Gretchen Felker-Martin
I think the first half of this book was stronger than the second half. I originally was expecting to give this 4 stars but this just fell a bit flat for me. And I’m still really torn between 2 and 3 stars. In all honesty, I might end up changing my rating after I’ve done some deeper thinking on this.
I wasn’t expecting this book to be so sex-focused. I expected more post-apocalypse than what I feel we ended up getting.
I also found myself getting confused while reading this. I kept rereading certain sections of this book because I wasn’t sure what I was reading.
I’m really conflicted because I did enjoy this book, but it also wasn’t entirely what I was hoping for.
This is my first splatterpunk book and I’m just not sure if it’s the genre for me. I really loved the concept of this book but I don’t think I loved the genre. I’m glad I read this as I’ve been trying to branch out from reading my normal paranormal and slasher horror. And I do think this book does a great job showcasing splatterpunk. Maybe one day the genre will grow on me more and I’ll have a reread of this book.
