The Sleeper and the Spindle
by Neil Gaiman
Neil Gaiman and Chris Riddell are each, through their own mediums, master storytellers. Hearing that they'd collaborated made me first think "That's going to be amazing!" before "Why haven't they done this before?"
This was a literary match made in heaven. Both the words and the images were incredibly beautiful, and worked so, so well together in this twist on Sleeping Beauty and Snow White that puts Once Upon A Time to shame. I cannot recommend this highly enough; it takes only a few minutes to read but you could easily spend all day gazing at the illustrations, letting yourself be sucked into the incredible fantasy world that Gaiman and Riddell have created. I got this book out of the library but I will be very, very surprised if I don't end up owning this book at some point - probably sooner rather than later!
