This is an exceptional book with a message straight from our first president to us in these baffling days we are struggling through. The first section is a good, quick summary of the Washington presidency. It is light on detail, but works well as a general overview and lead up to the release of the Farewell. The second section takes the reader through the Farewell itself, emphasizing Washington's six pillars of liberty, these being National Unity, Political Moderation, Fiscal Discipline, Virtue and Religion, Education, and Foreign Policy. The third section gives a glimpse of how the presidents who came after Washington used the ideas of his Farewell. A very accessible read with a message that, like I said, we ALL need to hear and remember in the current political climate.
