Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers
by Mary Roach
Truthfully, I never would have thought I'd be so entertained listening to Roach's research on the varying ways human corpses can be used for research and live a second life after the individual's death. It should be obvious that this is not for the squeamish, but despite the inclusion of numerous gruesome details, like those surrounding decapitation and crucification, it was easy to get past since the rest is just too fascinating to look away from. At the end she leaves you with the question of whether or not you (and your family) would donate your body to science when the time comes, or if at the very least you can (and should be) an organ donor. I'm pretty sure I'll read anything else Roach decides to write about.
