I understand why so many people love this book so much and see it as the blueprint for stories with morally gray characters. If I read this as a teenager, this would've blown my mind, I think. Now, I simply really enjoyed it. These two highly ambitious people becoming corrupted by their own hunger for greatness, it was entertaining and harrowing to follow.
The dual timeline was well done for the most part, it was interesting to see the developments in the past time line that lead up to the current one. Still, I felt like I didn't need all of them and sometimes the time jumps were a little too fast for me - don't get me wrong, they always make sense to include and have specific things they want to tell, but Idk.. sometimes it just felt a little off to me.
I also hoped it would go a little deeper into the research part - but I guess it's my fault I expected that to happen, beause I went in at least half-blind, only following booktubes recommendations.
