Confession time. If I had been reading this book I would have DNFed it before ⅓ of the way through. Mainly because it's based around religious practices, and that is not my cup of tea. However, since I was listening it on audiobook (Thank you #AudioBookSYNC) I not only didn’t DNF the book, I completed it, and am now on a manhunt for the sequels on audiobook.

Imagine never using your hands. Always seeming expressionless. This is typical life if you have Psi, the power to do things with your mind. In this world everyone has psi. If you are unfortunate enough to lose it, you are banned from the community. At the beginning of the book Taemon and his brother, do things with their psi that is considered off limits. And there is not a happy result. Taemon loses his psi, but then the adventure begins.

We can not overlook the religious aspects of this book because that is the drive for the things that happen. Psi isn’t only a power, but a religion. The community is run by priests who are on the lookout for the One True Son. This boy will lead the psi community into the future. But the priests are not all they seem to be. Taemon’s brother is chosen as the One True Son, and Taemon is sent to the dud farm, a community for those who have lost their psi.

So much of this book is extremely predictable. You seen dystopian tropes that you see in all other books, and even the prodigal son theme is not unique. The big reveal at the end you see f
