The big picture sci-fi concepts are interesting but this author has a problem with women and it really shows in the final installment of the series. Of the three The Dark Forest was the one I liked best 

possibly because of the parallel with mutually assured destruction in nuclear war that has become so relevant recently, as well as my interest in the Fermi paradox

 but I can't rate any of the books as high as I'd like for the ideas because of the problems with characters and a weird gender binary theme that seems to have very little to do with anything important in the story.
