The Line
by Paula Bossio
Age: Preschool-1st grade
Art: Drawing
A little girl comes across a long black line (that looks like the floor). She picks it up and twirls it around, creating different things to entertain her. Soon, though, the line begins to turn against her and becomes a great big monster ready to gobble her up--until a cute, fierce bear saves her. The end paper reveals that the line has been drawn by a boy this whole time.
Short, simple, and open to interpretation. I'd love to hear a child tell this story.
