the writing style wasn’t for me

i went into this hearing four different people say this was a better newer version of animal farm, but written by an author that can write even better than orwell.
so i don’t know, maybe i went into this expecting to much because of that but for me this was not at all what was told -which side note is one of the many reasons i HATE when books with smaller similarities are compared to other books as if it can be compared because they share the large majority of what’s happening in the books, which is what happened here.

sure the similarity is that similar to animal farm, there are animal or animalistic “people” doing human things and a commentary about the political situation.

but it’s done completely different.

okay so what i love about book prizes are that it shines a light on book and makes book accessible to a wide range of readers more readily (since many libraries do stock at least a few of the booker nominees every year) and that’s fantastic

that doesn’t mean that if i read most or all of the books on the lists i will love everyone of them.

this book just falls into the category of not being a writing style i enjoy and would o have been someone to stop reading a book i would have done so with this one.

i am not saying it’s a bad book and i do know -and love for the most part- that especially the booker prize includes a good amount of books with different styles of writing and shows what is possible.

and i am sure there are people -maybe even the larger amount of readers that try this book- that will love how different this book is.

for me this entire story made very little sense because of how it was written.
that could be because i wasn’t concentrating enough or because the writing  could not make me want to continue reading and because of that i kept noticing my mind wandering away from the story.

so for me this didn’t work. i can’t tell you more about this other than expect something different in style and see if you get along with it.

i might try this again in the future -sometimes especially unique style books work better for me on reread because i know a bit more and am more prepared for it.

but for now? eh. not for me.
