this book was the not at all what the title promised.
and i might have skim read the last 20-30 pages because i was so bored and just done with this book.
it actually reminded me a lot of „the idiot“ in the sense that both stories just follow this very specific time of a persons life - the reader gets dropped into the story and ends up not knowing anything more about the life of the character at the end of the story.
and while things happen - in this book i guess sexual exploration?- to me it didn’t feel like the character actually learned or discovered anything from what happens throughout the book and when it ends it felt like the character is at the same point as she started, just older and not at all wiser.
and i honestly don’t understand those types of books?
it’s it that need a book to have meaning or a life lesson or even actual character development to like them.
but a story that is just about this very specific moment of a persons life? i want something meaningful to happen during that section!
why bother reading about it otherwise?
if i don’t want anything to happen i can just look at my own life!
and while i do like that this book -kind of at least- makes it seem very normal and not only explore and experience sexually but that it’s also okay to not always make it into a big deal or try to make it into a life long relationship… i think that those are more things i tried reading into the book in search of trying to find more then nothing in it then the book actually being about that.
i am not sure if i am just not smart enough for this type of book, or if it’s a book for a very specific audience?
it can’t be the age because i am in the same generation as the main character!
i didn’t get this book, it made me feel frustrated and like i was wasting my time reading because it was so boringly everything day life. and i hate when books make me question why i am reading!
not for me!
and can’t say i am happy i tried it.
i can say i don’t get why this type of book -again comparing it with „the idiot“ keep appearing on book prize lists!
