Where the Line Bleeds by Jesmyn Ward
4.0

Everything Jesmyn Ward writes is absolutely fantastic. She has a way with words and a way of looking at the world that appears different from everything else I've ever written. Her prose is beautiful and her characters are interesting and nuanced, which is definitely a great point. This novel follows two twin brothers after they graduate high school and how they navigate adult life in a system that seems to be completely stacked again, due to to their backgrounds and the society being the mess it is now. And Ward here presents both a character study and a sociological analysis of how society utterly fails young black people.

There are some classical allusions here (as it happens with other Jesmyn Ward books), mostly to the story of Castor and Pollux, I think. I'm only familiar with the most basic aspects of said legend, but I'm really not that sure. The book is very solid and interestingly written, with the talented prose I've come to expect from Ward. I'll be eagerly waitin for her next book. Because she's that amazing.
