Since this is a Caldecott Medal winner, I looked at both the story and the illustrations. The illustrations are beautiful and fantastically detailed.

The story? I hate to use the phrase "a product of it's time" but holy cow is this a bit much. It's worth keeping in a collection merely as a way of starting a conversation with how some language does not age well.
