Ambushed! The Assassination Plot Against President Garfield
by Gail Jarrow
A riveting take of how President Garfield died, which could have been avoided if his doctors had known about germ theory (and, well, if he hadn't been shot in the first place.) Jarrow does an excellent job of laying out how they got there. It's sad that Garfield isn't well known: from this account, it seems like he could have done a lot of good for the country. Maybe this book will give him a little more knowledge.
