Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

adventurous challenging dark medium-paced

The book starts off in a place where many phrases are repeated in slightly different contexts. I spent the first part of the book (before Mia arrives as the Red Church) very confused about what was happening. This plot confusion continued at some times once we arrive in the Red Church but it does become a bit less confusing.

The relationships and friendships that happen in this book are bizarre but don’t detract from the plot.  The interactions between Trick and Mia are very jumbled.

The plot twist at the end was quite predictable but some of the final plot points did set the book up for the next one in the series.

I wouldn’t recommend this to many people but you could give it a try if you like: gore, blood, assassins, chaotic plot points, books that are 3rd person but also try to break the 4th wall through the use of a narrator, and a heavy plot.
