This is my second time reading this book, and I forgot how funny parts of it are! And how emotional it can get. The best of both worlds, in my opinion. I love the unique stories that Patrick Ness comes up with; I know they aren't for everyone, but as someone who reads and studies YA books, the way Ness plays with common YA tropes in this book is really entertaining.

Ness also deals with Mikey's OCD in a very real way. We get to see how he gets stuck in these loops, unable to finish washing his hands until he gets it just right; but he doesn't even know what exactly "right" is. For teens struggling with similar issues, seeing themselves in this book could do wonders.

Yes, there were aspects of the plot that maybe didn't quite fit that I didn't notice the first time around, but for me, those didn't matter as much as the message behind the story. Patrick Ness will continue to be one of my favorite authors, and I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
