The Winter of Our Discontent by John Steinbeck
3.0

This was an enjoyable read.
It is written in such a different way then most first person books you read now and it brings you more into his world then you can really say you have done before.
You start not with him at the beginning of his life but with him at the start of this great grand plot that happens and you leave him in the same way, he goes on with his story and you are left wondering what came next for him.
The characters are well written and are enjoyable to hear about their lives as the narrator does go back and forth between the present and past.
He does so as I feel I do a lot, your head isn't just going forward but remembers little things someone has done when you see them, remembers something they said when you hear them call you from across the street and the writing picks that up wonderfully.
I enjoyed the flow of the story and his life as it moved on through the days and weeks.
It was not hurried and it showed us things from his life that a lot of writers tend to skip over because they are ordinary.
I guess that is what I enjoyed most about this book - the way an ordinary life has adventers all it's own.
